NYSUT's 24/7

Central Islip has adopted NYSUT’S 24/7 Let’s Go! Healthy Lifestyles Program. NYSUT developed a program to encourage students to make 7 healthy choices regarding nutrition and exercise 7 times a day, 7 days a week. Action charts for every elementary student were supplied by NYSUT. Teachers in Central Islip have embraced NYSUT’S exercise and nutrition initiative with energy and excitement. A committee of Mulvey teachers organized a plan to roll out the program beginning February 2007. Grade level assemblies kicked off the program, at which time the goals of the program were introduced to the children. Nutrition themed “words of the day”, writing activities, and classroom lessons were just a few of the activities the committee had in store for the school. Students learned ways to make healthy choices regarding food and exercise; and the teachers at the Mulvey School hoped to make this NYSUT program an important step toward a healthier and more physically fit Mulvey family. If you would like more information about this program, you can log on to the NYSUT website at NYSUT.org or contact Barbara Leshinger at Mulvey (ext. 5053).
