Negotiations Committee
Chairperson: Michael Romano
Committee Members: Michele Celenza and Tara Cudak
What we do:
Your Negotiating team is responsible for the negotiation of your terms and conditions of employment. Those terms and conditions are codified in the collective bargaining agreement aka “the contract.” This contract is the culmination of countless hours of thought, conversation, planning, and investigation that precede the actual formal negotiating sessions with the representatives of the Board of Education. The printed book reflects the word, and spirit, of the negotiated Memorandum of Agreement.
While actual contract negotiations do not happen every year, the committee is constantly involved in a variety of tasks: Postings, job descriptions, terms of employment, new forms, grant enactment, and stipulated agreements to name but a few.
Every document produced by the committee must be closely examined with an eye towards long range effects before it is committed to paper. Once something has become hard copy, it becomes part and parcel to the contract and is binding upon all parties. It is the goal of the Negotiations Committee to protect and advance the rights and working conditions of every CITA member.
It is only through the combined efforts of Negotiations, PAC, and PR & R that your rights and terms of employment are maintained at a level where we are truly viewed as the gold standard of the entire state.

The Public Relations Committee
Chairperson: Tammy Walsh
Committee Members: Regina Gaudioso, Georgina Hernandez, and Stacy Humann
What we do:
The Public Relations Committee’s primary function is to coordinate communication between the leadership and the membership of the Central Islip Teachers Association.
The CITAtion, published monthly from September through June, is CITA’s primary informational publication. Officers and committee chairs contribute articles which share what their committee has been working on and how it affects the membership. Committee members and CITA members often contribute as guest writers. CITA members are encouraged to contribute to the CITAtion in several ways. Columns such as “Ideas that Build Excitement” and “In the Spotlight” are specifically designed to allow CITA’s members to share what is going on in their schools and classrooms with their colleagues.
The Home CITAtion, published annually to all Central Islip residents, highlights CITA’s commitment to the Central Islip School District and community.
The District Directory is a comprehensive listing of all district employees and their contact information. Building reps assist in the collection of information and staff lists for this publication.
The CITA website, www.centralislipta.com, provides each of the committees with an avenue for communicating important information to the CITA membership. Logon to view CITA’s executive board minutes, professional library information and other valuable resources. The website also makes such important and informative websites such as NYSUT and AFL-CIO readily available.

The Teacher Education and Professional Standards Committee
Chairperson: Susan Schwartz
What we do:
Due to the lack of new CITA members, TEPS has taken on a new role. TEPS will now be handling Special Education and ESL Compliance Issues. The TEPS chairperson will be the liaison between the teacher and central administration. The first step that the teacher must take is to exhaust all possibilities of rectifying the compliance issues between their building principal and/or the director of their department (Special Ed.or ESL) and themselves. If the teacher is not successful and continues to have compliance issues they are to contact Susan Schwartz@ Susannbs@gmail.com with detailed information including how they are out of compliance and what actions they have already taken.
