CITA Scholarship Drive Raises over $60,000
Another Record Breaking Year??? Are you kidding?
by Jennifer Cicero
After last year’s unbelievable scholarship drive, I honestly never thought that I would be saying that we beat that total…but we did!!! This year, the Central Islip Teachers Association will be giving out $60,400 in scholarships to our deserving seniors.
Let that sink in for a minute: $60,400! It couldn’t have been done without the help of many people, so I would like to take this time to thank them. First of all, thank you to my scholarship committee for their tireless efforts in collecting money and interviewing the potential recipient. I couldn’t have done it without them. Thank you to Mr. Russel for again donating $1,500 in memory of his wife, Peggy. Thank you to Mr. John C. Pryor, retired guidance counselor from Reed, who again donated $2,000. As always, the CIRTA made a generous donation of $1,000. Thank you, retirees!! Thank you to Mark Newhouse for his $1,000 donation to be given to a future teacher. Charlie Corcoran generously donated $5,000 for the second year in a row. Thank you, Charlie. We will again have a $5,000 scholarship in memory of Carol Pufahl. Also, thank you to the Executive Board for voting in favor of the CITA contributing $25 for each of the 60 teachers who are still without jobs this year. That was an unbelievable gesture. And finally, thank you to each and every CITA member that donated this year. I cannot believe how many people donated more than the standard $25. None of this would be possible without your donations. THANK YOU!!!
All scholarships will be given at Senior Awards Night which will be held on Thursday, June 2nd from 7pm – 9pm in the High School auditorium. Mark it down on your calendars. I hope to see you there to watch our seniors receive their scholarships
